The evenings are drawing in, which means the inevitable winter is just around the corner! Soon, we’ll all be contemplating putting the heating on. Many of us, however, wait until ice forms on the end of our nose before we give in, in order to keep our energy bills low!
That’s where the ‘smart’ thermostat Nest comes in.
With thanks to M&E Contrax (part of the Western Industrial Group), this year you can avoid that dilemma. As official approved suppliers and installers of Nest, they will provide a complete supply and fit service so you wont have to raise a finger – not even to turn up the heating!
So, what is Nest?
The Nest thermostat has been programmed to remember your personal heating and cooling habits. Just turn it up and turn it down either manually, or with the Nest app on your phone or iPad. It learns what temperatures you like and builds you a personalised schedule. Within a week, Nest will start setting temperatures by itself.
What does Nest have to offer?
Auto away – Nest can sense when you’re not at home with its 150° wide-angle activity sensors. The Nest thermostat automatically turns to an energy-efficient away temperature when you’re gone. Auto-Away works in 90% of homes, even if your Nest is in a spot you don’t pass on your way out the door.
On the go – With the Nest app you can control your thermostat when you’re out and about. This includes – Control up to ten thermostats in two homes from one account, change the temperature, check and adjust your schedule, see and change your settings and put Nest in and out of Auto-Away mode.
The Nest Leaf – The Nest Leaf appears on your thermostat when you’re saving energy. Changing the temperature by just one degree can cut your energy use up to 5%. The leaf acts as a visual aid to guide you in the right direction.
Your personalised schedule – During its first week in your home, Nest will remember every temperature change you make, and at what time of day you make this change. Once it is used to your daily heating and cooling habits it will create you your own personalised schedule, and will start changing temperatures on its own. This schedule can be found, and edited, on the thermostat and with the Nest app.
Your energy history – With Nest’s energy history, you will now have the information you need to understand, and control your energy bill. This can be found on your Nest app. Energy history will show you when the heating was on in the last 10 days and if the weather, your adjustments, or Auto-Away significantly affected your energy use.
Will Nest be compatible with my heating system?
According to Nest’s website, Nest is compatible with 95% of heating and cooling systems, including gas, electric, forced air, variable speed, heat pump, radiant, hot water, solar, and geothermal.
With all these ‘smart’ features, it’s easy to see why the Nest thermostat is becoming increasingly popular. Once the Nest has been programmed correctly, it can save you on average 20% on your heating and cooling bill.
M&E Contrax are currently offering an outstanding price of just £220* to supply and install your Nest thermostat if you live in the South West. If you can find a better price than that locally, let us know and we’ll beat it!
