Backache – Almost all of us have suffered from it; and for those of you thinking “Nope, not me!”, then don’t speak too soon. It’s been said that 4 out of 5 adults will suffer with backache at some stage of their adult lives. Backache can be caused by all manner of different reasons, and unless you suffer with Sciatica or a slipped disk, it can rarely be treated.

Here are some simple steps you can take to avoid backache in the workplace –

  1. Posture – One of the main causes of backache at work. Sitting at your desk for around 7 hours a day, and over stretching to reach your keyboard and mouse is bound to have an effect on your posture! A way to prevent the effects of bad posture on your back, would be to buy posture correcting devices and supportive desk chairs.
  2. Lifting heavy objects – If you’re working in a warehouse all day, you could be at great risk from pulling muscles and doing real damage to your back. It’s 2014, there’s no reason for you to be lifting and pulling heavy objects around the warehouse any more! Speak to your employer, ask them to re-evaluate the amount you’re lifting daily, and invest in some new products which can help lighten the load!
  3. Stress – Stress in the workplace is common, and can be caused by a variety of reasons. By being under constant stress and pressure can have an impact on your health. Make sure all the tension within your workplace doesn’t affect your back. Speak to your employer, or a trusted colleague to see what steps you can take to prevent this.

Backache is a common injury and can’t be avoided completely. But by taking these simple steps you can prevent it from happening so frequently!
